What is the recommended skip size for my home?

Domestic Skip Hire, Skip Hire

What is the recommended skip size for my home?

When you’re planning a major clear-out or renovation job at home, chances are that you’ll be creating a lot of stuff that you need to get rid of. There’s probably going to be way too much to fit into your wheelie bins, and you don’t want to spend the rest of the week going backwards and forwards to the tip or recycling centre, either.

Under these circumstances, your best bet is almost certainly going to be a skip as the most convenient way of dealing with your waste. But that begs the question: how big a skip do you actually need?

Here at Enfield Skips, we have a wide range of skips available for domestic use, with sizes ranging from 3 yard mini skips up to our 14 yard mega skips. It’s important that the skip you hire from us is as close to being right as possible – order one that’s too small and you may not fit everything in and end up having to hire another to deal with the rest of your waste; get one too big and you’ll be paying more than you need to.

Choosing the right skip size

There are a number of things you can do to give yourself the best chance of getting the right skip size for your project. These include:

Referring to our website

We have separate pages on this website covering the different skip sizes we can supply, giving a guide to each skip’s size and how much you can fit in. It also lists the type of projects that are likely to be suitable. For instance, our 7 yard midi skip is 9′2″ long x 5′ wide x 4′ high, holds approx 55 filled bin bags and is suitable for general household and garden waste, and small building projects.

Using our Skip Size Calculator

The easiest and quickest way to determine the right skip for your project is to use our Skip Size Calculator. Simply estimate how many standard black bin bags the waste you need to dispose of will fill, and it will tell you the best skip for the job.

When assessing your waste, make sure you only include things that are allowed in a skip. You can find a list of things that are not allowed to be put into a skip in our FAQs.

Talking to our team

If you’re still not sure which skip is the best for your project, just give us a call and we’ll try to help in any way that we can.

Other things to consider

Apart from making sure you’re only counting things that you are allowed to put into a skip, you also need to take into account the nature of the waste. For instance, if your waste is just going to be made up of small but heavy items – such as bricks and rubble – you don’t want to fill one of the larger skips as it could become too heavy and unsafe to move.

On the other hand, if your waste is going to be bulky – such as large pieces of furniture – you need to make sure that the skip is going to be big enough to hold it, regardless of how much waste there is in total.

Enfield Skips is a leading skip hire company operating in and around Enfield, Hoddesdon and Cheshunt. We have a great range of skip sizes available for domestic and commercial use, and a commitment to making sure that we won’t be beaten on price. We also aim to ensure that at least 90% of the waste we collect is recycled.
